City of Chicago Pays For Police Officer’s Bad Driving

Chicago Personal Injury Victim Gets Fair Compensation

When my client, who I will call “DK” came into my office and told me his story, I thought for sure we were in for it.  He was driving his SUV in his neighborhood one evening when a police car with no sirens, no lights, AND NO HEADLIGHTS ran through a stop sign and T-boned his SUV, flipping it over, forcing it off the road and into a park.  Although my client’s injuries were not long-lasting, he had an Emergency Room bill of about $10,000.00.

Any time a client calls with a case against a police officer, I know that we need WITNESSES because it seems like it is Chicago Police Department policy that there has never ever been an accident that was ever casued by a police officer (okay, that’s a joke!).

Luckily, after alot of leg work, we got two good samaritans who saw the accident to give us statements.  Even with the statements, the City would not call to negotiate and would not make an offer.  Until we got serious and filed a lawsuit.

Within a couple months of filing a lawsuit, the City decided to play fair and made an offer that both my client and I thought was very fair.  Good for the City of Chicago for doing the right thing.  Sometimes, a lawyer’s willingness to get out there and get statements and really work a case up can make all the difference in tthe world in getting a settlement and avoiding years of waiting while a case is litigated.

I was very happy to get such a quick and satisfying outcome for DK.  He is a pretty nice guy and he shouldn’t have had to wait as long as he did for recovery in his Chicago personal injury case.
