First, report the nursing home to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
If your loved on got hurt in a nursing home or has been abused or neglected, request an investigation. They will do it and give you a report. And the wrongdoing will be documented and hopefully prevented from happening again. You can find the IDPH here.
Second , move your loved one if you suspect retaliation or revenge or ongoing abuse.
This can be hard to do and cause trouble if there are no other facilities nearby. But it might be necessary.
Third, get involved.
Make sure the nursing home is giving your loved one access to medical care. Make sure to visit often. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease," as they say.
